POCO F1 by Xiaomi- Is it really worth to buy?

Pocophone F1 by Xiaomi…Confused?? Well, it is the latest smartphone by Poco which is a new sub-brand of Xiaomi. Xiaomi will support the Poco completely from branding to support.

You might be thinking that already you know about Poco F1 then why you should read this. Well, we will tell you why you should not buy this phone and who needs to have it.

As you might aware that Xiaomi started a few years ago and now is one of the top smartphone company creating the best mid-range budget smartphones. But they have come so far that they started to do something new which is not done by anyone in the smartphone industry.

As like Oneplus changed the look of the smartphone industry by bringing the new challenge to develop the smartphones as a low cost which gives OnePlus a big boost to stay in the market and keep their place intact. OnePlus is one of those who developed a Flagship Killer smartphone to create their value in the market. Somewhat similar is done by Xiaomi under the sub-brand Poco which has a new Flagship Killer Smartphone named Poco F1.

FYI- As Xiaomi or Mi written in Chinese means millet – little rice, while Pocophone in Spanish means little phone.

About Poco F1

Design and Display

The Xiaomi Poco F1 mobile features a 6.18″ (15.7 cm) display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2246. The IPS LCD display takes your visual experience to the next level. So, now you can watch videos and play games on this display with an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The phone has Corning® Gorilla® Glass which is highly resistant to wear and tear, so POCO F1 is built to last.

The Pocophone F1’s body is mainly built of plastic. It holds a premium look not only that it has another variant with Kelavr back on it which gives it much more strength and rough stylish look to the smartphone. So two variants in terms of design but rest of the things are the same.

POCO F1 Armoured Edition has a back panel built with DuPont™ Kevlar® aramid fiber. The super-tough, heat-resistant material is widely used for applications in aviation, military, and high-end cycling. Its sophisticated texture gives POCO F1 a debonair look and makes it stand out among common products.

The Pocophone F1 comes with a bezel-less screen and a notch which is much similar to Apple iPhone X but with fewer features as loaded in iPhone X.  Under the notch you have an infrared camera and an IR illuminator for face unlock, and a 20MP selfie snapper. Though the face unlocks is not as secure as the 3D-face mapping sensors on the Mi 8 Explorer Edition and iPhone X, but it’s also not as basic as the widespread selfie implementations either.

Processor and Performance

POCO F1 runs on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845 Up to 2.8 GHz mobile platform, meaning you get Snapdragon’s powerful AI engine on their most advanced flagship 10nm class chip.  This processor is clubbed with 8GB LPDDR4X, have UFS 2.1 flash, and Adreno™ 630 which is 30% improved GPU performance over Adreno 540.

Due to such a massive processing unit which performs so fast the phone might get heat up during heavy tasking or gaming. To cool down or to avoid such situation it has LiquidCool Technology, usually reserved for hardcore gaming smartphones. No matter how intensely you’re gaming, the cooled Snapdragon 845 has no problem keeping up its peak performance and high-frequency output.  As a result, your phone will perform better as it does not require extra time to cool down and then perform your task.

The front camera is of a 20MP high-res sensor with 1.8μm large pixel (4-in-1 Super Pixel) technology gives you gorgeous selfies. AI Beautify 4.0 and precise bokeh effect deliver studio quality shots. Its camera ensures sharp images with bright colors even in low-light conditions.

It has three different options for storage 6GB+64GB / 6GB+128GB / 8GB+256GB. Please always remember that available storage and RAM are less than the total memory due to storage of the operating system and software pre-installed in the device.

Connectivity and Battery

The 4000mAh (typ) / 3900mAh (min) high-capacity battery has the endurance to keep your phone going as you game, watch videos, snap pictures and more without a second thought. It provides enough power for 30 hours of calling or 146 hours of audio playback on a single charge.* Supports Quick Charge 3.0 with USB Type-C reversible connector port. Drained battery? No problem. Fast charging rapidly replenishes power.

It is a 4G dual SIM ,3-choose-2 hybrid SIM tray (nanoSIM + nanoSIM/microSD) smartphone with connectivity like Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, USB OTG, 3G, and 4G. Supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi‑Fi with 2×2 MIMO technology, Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology etc.

Operating System and Pricing

Unlike most of Xiaomi devices which running on traditional MIUI ROM, Pocophone is running on the modified version of MIUI which specifically designed for the POCO series. Mentioned by Xiaomi, the MIUI for POCO are “specifically modified for POCOPHONE to make it lighter, faster, and smoother.”

Similar to its predecessor, MIUI for POCO was based on the Android 8.1.0 Oreo but optimized to run on Poco series smartphone. However, Xiaomi also releases the beta version of the Launcher to Google Play to allows any Android smartphone to try the launcher as well.

There are few key differences that separate MIUI for POCO and traditional MIUI, such as the App Launcher which lacks on traditional MIUI ROM. Some other minor changes on the UI including the battery icon and recent apps screen which is similar to the traditional Android UI.

Xiaomi Poco F1 price in India starts from Rs 20,999 for 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. The 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version at Rs 23,999, whereas the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model cost Rs 28,999. Moreover, the phone available in colors like Graphite Black, Steel Blue, and Rosso Red.

If you want to buy the armoured version then you need to pay Rs 29,999 which is the 8GB+256GB variant.

Why you should not buy Xioami Poco F1?

Though there can be many reasons for not buying this smartphone as this does not offer:

  • IPS LCD (No AMOLED or OLED display)
  • NO OIS but have EIS.
  • Plastic body. Feels cheap in hand
  • Huge Notch
  • No water resistant

Reasons to buy Poco F1

  • Dependable Performance
  • Feels solid
  • Excellent Battery life
  • Good cameras
  • Flagship smartphone under the budget category

So overall POCO F1 even with some cost-cutting offers great value for money right now in the market (cheapest phone with flagship processor) which itself is a steal deal. We still believe it is a great deal as no one has offered such a powerful smartphone under this budget.
