Xiaomi Mi 5 which is “Millet phone 5” is launched in Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 which is going on in Barcelona. Xiaomi unwraped one of the most awaited smartphone having the latest and powerful processor named Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 which is even more powerful than some of the laptop processor. For the first time Xiaomi appeared in MWC and launched of Mi 5 and Mi 4S. Mi 5 is the second smartphone having Qualcomm Snapdragon  820, world’s first smartphone having snapdragon 820 is Le Max Pro.

Xiaomi Mi 5 is launched in three variants according to which the first model will have 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage, second model will have 3GB RAM with 64GB internal storage and the last but not the least, with more 1GB RAM size than other two models, last model which is Mi 5 pro variant is having 4GB RAM with 128GB internal storage. Its body is composed of High-grade zirconia ceramic which is hard to crack and ceramic is 75% more expensive than high-grade glass.

Mi 5 is powered by the latest more powerful processor which is Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 along with Adreno 530 GPU for best graphic performance and multi tasking at ease. It features a 5.15-inch full-HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) display with curved 3D Ceramic glass and having approximately 73.1% screen-to-body ratio, its display is 17 percent less power consuming. According to Barra “they have filed for 3600 patents last year and have 21 patents on display tech alone.

It features 16MP rear camera with PDAF autofocus, DTI for pixel to pixel isolation which prevents light from leaking, Sony IMX298 camera sensor and LED flash. Its rear camera has another features which is 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilisation) and sapphire glass protection lens. Mi 5 is having 4MP front facing camera, with 2 micron pixels, both cameras feature an f/2.0 resolution.

Xiaomi is still a startup at heart, says Hugo Barra. The company sold 70 million phones in 2015 and IDC says that it was no 1 smartphone brand in China. First Xiaomi phone with UFS 2.0 for storage. It measures 144.5 x 69.2 x 7.25 mm and weighs 129 grams. It is fueled with 3000mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. According to the company “the Quick Charge 3.0 is 20 percent faster than its predecessor, the Quick Charge 2.0”.

Mi 5 runs Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 interface on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and comes with weekly software updates as it is a Live OS. It’s the Xiaomi’s first phone which is loaded with Xiaomi’s Mi Video Calling app, a new cross platform video chat app that features live video effects and multitasking modes. It has other connectivity also which includes USB Type-C port. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/ac, 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, Glonass, and NFC.

Xiaomi Mi 5 features FPC’s touch fingerprint sensor FPC1245. Jörgen Lantto, CEO of FPC, comments: “Xiaomi is a leading global smartphone manufacturer and we are proud that Xiaomi selected FPC1245 for Mi5, following the successful launch of Redmi Note 3 in 2015, using FPC1035. FPC1245 supports ceramic coating as well as 360 degree finger rotation capability, fast response time and industry leading 3D image quality“.

It will be available starting on March 1st  at 10 AM and will be priced at $354 (2,600RMB) for the top variant 128GB model and $262 (1,999RMB) for the basic model of 32GB. It will be available in black, white, and gold color options. It will come to China first, followed by India and other markets Xiaomi sells its devices in. More than 2,098,989 reservations are already done.
